Hello!
I’m Larry, a soon-to-be drug and alcohol counselor once I finish school, internship and all the other requirements. My life is generally really busy; I’m a service coordinator at Reliance House in Norwich, CT in a specialized program helping mentally ill individuals become independent and I’m also grinding through a counseling internship as well as finishing up a state and international counseling certification. This means I have little spare time and little time off.
I used to be a Computer Programmer Consultant until NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) helped replace me with cheaper imported workers. I have quite a bit of education under my belt but I am also under skilled and theoretical knowledge will not feed a family the same way a solid trade skill can.
In my working life I have also been a Special Education teacher and Real Estate Salesperson (I failed miserably at this because I am no salesman). And I’ve also been trained in Residential Appraising. Now I’m a counselor- newbie and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been…
I’m attending the DARC (Drug and Alcohol Rehab Counselor) program at Manchester Community College which is an excellant program combining coursework with a hands-on counseling internship. If anyone out there is interested in doing this as a profession, this is the place to go to school….
Welcome Back! Thanks for visiting!
